Recalls and safety

China's regulator recalled 88,981 Qin Plus DM-i in November 2025 for battery pack power loss, with free pack replacement, and 115,783 Tang and Yuan Pro in October 2025.

Not confirmed. The September 2024 recall of 96,714 Dolphin and Yuan Plus is constantly miscited as a battery recall. It was a steering controller fire recall. And the claim that BYD supplies cells for Tesla cars has gone unconfirmed for five years. BYD's real Tesla business is storage.

Vehicles using their cells

Every BYD branded car, vertically integrated

Toyota bZ3, bZ3X and bZ5
confirmed
Xiaomi SU7 Standard, dual sourced with CATL and assigned essentially at random car by car

Confirmed means an automaker or supplier statement, a filing, or a recall document named it. Reported means press or analyst claim only. Several automakers dual source, so one model can carry cells from more than one maker.

Buying a Used EV or Hybrid?

Get the battery measured before you pay for it. A PPI Auto inspector tests the pack on the car you are looking at and sends you the numbers. Starting at $225.
