What Goes Wrong

Reported failures, each from a source listed below, as of October 7, 2026.

  • Owner complaints NHTSA lists under the Hybrid Propulsion System component for the Honda Civic Hybrid, by model year: 2006: 4 · 2007: 3 · 2008: 1. These are all hybrid system complaints, owner reported and unverified, not only battery faults, as of 2026-10-07.
  • Honda's June 2012 product-update letter for 2006-08 Civic Hybrids provides new IMA battery software (the logic used in 2009 and later Civic Hybrids) so the battery can better maintain an ideal state of charge over the vehicle's life. (static.nhtsa.gov: CSC-10037712-5776.pdf, 2026-10-07)
  • Honda Service Bulletin 09-025 (2009 Civic Hybrid) says the IMA battery software can misinterpret sensor inputs and set DTC P0A7F, and/or a low-charged IMA battery can cause low power when accelerating from a stop; the fix is a software update, with IMA battery replacement if P0A7F is indicated. (static.nhtsa.gov: SB-10038364-6976.pdf, 2026-10-07)
  • Honda's January 2015 dealer message announcing SB 15-006 says the extension covers 2009-11 Civic Hybrid IMA batteries that may deteriorate prematurely, decreasing battery capacity. (static.nhtsa.gov: MC-10115162-9999.pdf, 2026-10-07)
  • Honda Service Bulletin 10-083 says replacement IMA batteries for 2006-11 Civic Hybrids come in new battery types whose control software must be matched to the battery; mismatched software reduces IMA battery life. (static.nhtsa.gov: MC-10142649-9999.pdf, 2026-10-07)

Symptoms

Recalls

  • 07V034000 2006 Over time, rear-seat passenger weight may push a metal cover over Integrated Motor Assist components against a rubber cap on an electrical part.
  • 11V106000 2006-2007 The voltage converter that passes power from the Integrated Motor Assist system to the car's electrical components may fail.

Warranty

Honda Service Bulletin 15-006 (January 2015) raises IMA battery coverage on all 2009-11 non-PZEV Civic Hybrids from 8 years/80,000 miles (2009) or 8 years/100,000 miles (2010-11) to 10 years/150,000 miles to match PZEV cars (junction board excluded); Honda SB 12-077 separately extended 2006-08 coverage by 12 months/12,000 miles, to 9 yr/96,600 mi or 11 yr/170,100 mi for 2006 and 9 yr/92,000 mi or 11 yr/162,000 mi for 2007-08.
