What Goes Wrong
Reported failures, each from a source listed below, as of October 7, 2026.
- Honda Service Bulletin 10-083 (rev. January 2014) says replacement IMA batteries for 2003-05 Civic Hybrids now come in new battery types, and the battery control software must be matched to the installed battery type; a mismatch results in reduced IMA battery life. Same Electrical Spec
These packs share this one's chemistry, voltage and module count. That is a spec match only. It does not mean the parts fit each other, so check with a technician.
Warranty
Honda Service Bulletin 12-077 (December 2012) says the original IMA battery coverage on 2003-05 Civic Hybrids was 8 years/80,000 miles or 10 years/150,000 miles depending on the vehicle's emission warranty, and extends it to 9 years/96,600 miles or 11 years/170,100 miles respectively (figures include the 5% mileage added by SB 06-085).
